Northwell Health, New York State's largest healthcare provider and private employer, is seeking a distinguished, visionary physician executive to serve in a combined leadership role as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital (LHH) and Vice President of Emergency Medicine for the Metro Market. Lenox Hill Hospital is a nationally ranked, 450-bed academic medical center on Manhattan's Upper East Side, with an Emergency Department that manages approximately 51,000 visits annually and holds distinctions including NYS-certified Stroke Center, STEMI Receiving Center, and Level 3 Geriatric ED Accreditation.
The Role
This dual role provides full administrative, operational, and clinical leadership of the Emergency Department at Lenox Hill Hospital, together with strategic oversight and clinical governance of Emergency Medicine programs across the Metro Market. The successful candidate will drive quality, safety, and financial performance at Lenox Hill, while mentoring and aligning Emergency Department Chairs and teams across market sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic, clinical, operational, and administrative leadership for the LHH Emergency Department and clinical governance across the Metro Market
- Advance quality, safety, patient experience, throughput, and performance improvement priorities
- Manage P&L, budgets, and resource utilization; identify growth opportunities across the market
- Recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performing team of emergency physicians and advanced practice clinicians
- Lead change management for care redesign, technology adoption, and emergency department modernization
- Engage philanthropic donors and institutional supporters, and cultivate research-oriented sponsorship opportunities that advance the department's academic and clinical mission
- Build trusted relationships across hospital leadership, market executives, physicians, and community stakeholders
Requirements & Ideal Experience
- MD or DO degree from an accredited institution; Board Certification in Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM) required
- MBA, MHA, or equivalent advanced degree highly preferred
- Significant, progressive leadership experience in Emergency Medicine at a tertiary or quaternary medical center
- Multi-site or regional leadership experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success in operational improvement, financial management, quality outcomes, and physician engagement within a large health system
