Applications are invited to the position of Corporate Chief of Laboratory Medicine at William Osler Health System (Osler), a hospital system which includes Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital, and Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness. Serving 1.3 million residents of Brampton, Etobicoke and surrounding communities within the Central region and nationally recognized for its commitment to patient safety, Osler is Accredited with Exemplary Standing, the highest rating a Canadian hospital can receive. Osler will also play a critical role in the development of Ontario’s next net-new Medical School, in partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), and as part of its transition to an Academic Health Centre. With an annual budget of $1.2B, Osler offers a wide range of health services, with high quality care provided by skilled, professional, multidisciplinary teams. The hospital is frequently named one of Greater Toronto's Top Employers and is recognized as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers.
Reporting to the Chief of Staff and working in collaboration with the EVP, Medical Affairs, and the Administrative Program Director, the Corporate Chief of Laboratory Medicine is accountable for the overall leadership and management of the Department, in alignment with Osler’s mission, vision, values, and strategic direction. This includes setting the vision, providing strategic direction, and contributing professional medical expertise to a highly skilled and specialized team. The Department includes the Clinical Laboratory Medicine group, comprised of two Microbiologists, a PhD Biochemist, and three Hematopathologists supporting Chemistry/Point of Care Testing, Microbiology, Hematology, and Transfusion Medicine; as well as the Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology group, consisting of 17 Pathologists covering Cytopathology, Surgical Pathology, and Advanced Diagnostics. Together, these teams deliver critical diagnostic services that underpin high-quality, patient-centered care across Osler. Demonstrating creativity, flexibility, and clinical leadership, the Corporate Chief will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of patient-focused services within a collaborative, team-based environment. The role will involve fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and cooperation across three laboratory sites and building strong connections between the laboratory department and Osler’s other clinical departments. The Corporate Chief will also serve as an ambassador for the department, accountable for promoting positive relationships with patients, families, staff, and external stakeholders, while ensuring that laboratory medicine continues to play a central role in advancing Osler’s vision of delivering safe, compassionate, and innovative care.
The ideal candidate is a visionary and collaborative leader who thrives on building strong, engaged teams and working across portfolios to achieve system-wide impact. They should be a physician in good standing with the College and able to be credentialed within the department. Bringing deep clinical expertise in laboratory medicine, they will champion the breadth of technical and diagnostic excellence at Osler while remaining attuned to emerging innovations and best practices in the field. The next Corporate Chief will bring a strong foundation in both medical practice and health system leadership, with a demonstrated ability to guide multidisciplinary teams and foster alignment across complex, fast-paced environments. As a physician leader, they will embody a commitment to clinical excellence, patient-centered care, and continuous improvement, while cultivating a culture of trust, collaboration, and accountability across three laboratory sites and the wider organization.
This is a rare opportunity to lead laboratory medicine at one of Canada’s largest and fastest-growing community hospital systems, serving a diverse and rapidly expanding population. The successful candidate will have a track record of success in managing large and complex departments, balancing strategic vision with operational execution, and driving innovation to advance quality, safety, and efficiency.
