Position Description:
The Community Health Coordinator IV (CHC) in the School of Medicine will be a key part of the Community Engagement and Outreach Core, supporting the $11.7 million CTRD grant through the Louisville Clinical and Translational Research Center (LCTRC) at the University of Louisville. As a community liaison, the CHC will build meaningful connections with local residents, amplify community voices, and bridge the gap between academic researchers and community members. This position focuses on empowering the community through education, resource connection, and collaboration with academic scientists to advance community-centered research. The focus area for this position will be in the Owensboro region with potential expansion throughout the Commonwealth.
This is a part time grant funded position with continued employment contingent on grant renewals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and nurture trusting relationships with local community members and groups.
- Communicate community concerns to the research team and grant leadership.
- Connect researchers and community members through outreach and engagement.
- Attend events, engage organizations, and promote grant initiatives.
- Assist in planning workshops, health literacy events, and resource fairs.
- Share research findings and health-related information in an accessible way.
- Represent and ensure community concerns are addressed by the research team.
- Help recruit and assist community members for health programs.
- Maintain records of outreach efforts and provide feedback for program improvements.
- Assist the Community Health Research Coordinator, Community Engagement and Outreach Core leaders, LCTRC leaders, and community partners as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Community Health Worker (CHW) or willingness to obtain certification within six months of hire.
- Knowledge of public health principles, social determinants of health, and community-based research.
- Experience with community engagement or outreach programs.
- Familiarity with the Owensboro region
- Experience working with diverse populations in a community setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with community members and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic data entry.
- Access to reliable transportation for community-based activities.
